Later in the evening visit the Sukhbaatar square famous for its giant statues of Chengis Khan & Kublai Khan

DAY 2: Explore the Ulaan Baatar - also the land of eternal blue sky

DAY 3: Khustai National Park

After breakfast, check out and drive about 2 hours to Khustai National Park .

After a brief rest:

in the afternoon explore the park — see the Przewalski’s wild horses (Takhi), red deer, marmots, birds, and steppe scenery.

Visit the visitor center museum and do a short guided trek or jeep safari.

DAY 4: More of Khustai National Park & Learn about Nomadic families

sunrise wildlife safari — the best time to spot Przewalski’s wild horses (Takhi) grazing in the open steppe.

Look for Mongolian gazelles, red deer, marmots, foxes, eagles, and other steppe birds.

Capture the golden hues of sunrise over the rolling hills — a photographer’s delight!

Lunch at a local cafe

Visit a nomadic herder’s family nearby to learn about ger life, milking livestock, and making airag (fermented mare’s milk).

Optionally, do a short nature hike or horseback ride in the lower valleys.

Return to Ulaan Baatar

DAY 5: Ulaanbaatar → Karakorum (Kharkhorin)

After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic 6–7 hour drive (approx. 360 km) across Mongolia’s rolling steppes to Karakorum, the legendary 13th-century capital of the Mongol Empire founded by Genghis Khan. En route, enjoy sweeping landscapes dotted with nomadic herders and their gers.

Arrive by afternoon and check in at a traditional ger camp. Later, explore the Erdene Zuu Monastery, Mongolia’s oldest Buddhist monastery built with stones from the ruins of ancient Karakorum. Stroll through its vast walled complex of white stupas and visit the Karakorum Museum to learn about the empire’s golden age.
